I have always been very passionate about helping kids with their education.
These kids could be family or nonfamily members. We believe in the saying that “if you educate a child, you educate a whole nation”.
There have been several recent reports in the news in Ghana about deployable conditions in primary schools in rural areas in Ghana. We have seen kids sitting
under trees in the sun attending classes. These classes are cancelled when there is bad weather, especially when it rains. Most of these schools have no supplies to help with learning.
In December 2019, after a friend and I visited a school in Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region, we decided to get involved in helping with deprived schools in rural Ghana. During our visit we saw kids sitting in the hot sun (outside a classroom), writing an end of term examination. It was interesting seeing the situation in person.
After our return to the US we formed our foundation, Educational Charity Foundation for Ghana (ECFG), registered in the State of North Carolina and eventually obtained an IRS 501 (c) (3) status as a non-profit organization with tax-exempt.
Starting January 2020, we started the construction of the uncompleted Junior secondary school (JSS) school and I am glad to report that the project was completed in August and handed over to the school and district on August 28th, 2020. It was a happy day for our foundation.
There is so much work for us to do for the disadvantaged both here in the US and in Ghana. Kids everywhere need the opportunity to get the best education under the best conditions. There are more opportunities for our foundation to help with struggling schools in Ghana.
We plan to help with school supplies, i.e. books, writing materials, computers and comfortable classrooms for the schools. We will be appealing for funds from supporters, including organizations, here in the US and Ghana. Nothing is too small. All contributions are welcome. We need to give back to society and to those in need!
